SUB (MicroDVD) is a subtitle format originally created for the MicroDVD media player. Unlike SRT and VTT which use absolute timecodes, SUB files use frame-based timing — each subtitle is marked by start and end frame numbers rather than timestamps. This makes SUB format dependent on the video's frame rate for correct synchronization. While SUB format is largely obsolete for modern video production, many legacy subtitle collections and DVD rips still use this format. Converting SUB files to SRT using our SUB to SRT converter is recommended for compatibility with modern media players and streaming platforms.
